Injectables

Not everyone is comfortable going through invasive surgical procedures for cosmetic purposes. Some people just don’t like the idea of facial surgery no matter how minor, while others may be afraid of the terms and phrases that are usually associated with surgical cosmetic procedures.

Whichever the case for you, plastic surgeons and scientists have developed quite a few non-invasive cosmetic treatments that can help people improve their appearance without the need of actual surgery. Prime among such procedures today are injectables and fillers. Heard of these before?

In essence, certain cosmetic injectables exist which, when applied to specific areas of a person’s face, can temporarily reduce and virtually eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and lines. This is generally done through manipulating the underlying muscles to attain the desired effects, which range anywhere from plumping lips, to enhancing shallow contours on the face.

One might wonder though, is there any reason to opt for injectables first, even if you have no hesitation when it comes to surgery? Let’s take a look at the primary advantages of these procedures:

  • The entire process usually only takes a few minutes
  • Results are apparent nearly instantaneously
  • Unlike surgery, the changes are not permanent and, in some cases, can be reversed
  • Very minimal downtime; you can go on with your schedule right after the procedure
  • Relatively painless
  • Less expensive!

As great as the benefits of injectables and fillers are, for permanent solutions, surgery is still the best option. Injectables are an excellent alternative for minor cosmetic enhancements, but need to be repeated after three to six months to retain their efficacy. Injectables alone are not the best choice if you’re looking for permanent results and a more dramatic makeover. Surgery is still the best option in those cases.

Currently, two major types of cosmetic injectable procedures exist: Botox® or Dysport® injections and also dermal fillers.

Botox® Injections

You’ve probably heard of Botox® or Dysport® and may have considered it for yourself. Millions of people around the globe have opted for Botox® injectables to get a youthful appearance. Botox® acts as a muscle relaxant, temporarily weakening the underlying muscles to eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and furrows. The final effect is of a smoother and more relaxed skin, which can take the appearance of years off of your face! Being a non-surgical procedure, the effects can last several months but will need to be repeated if one intends to retain the youthful look. Often, people combine Botox® injections with surgical facelifts for enhanced results, as most injectables complement cosmetic surgeries quite nicely.

Dermal Fillers

Did you know that the face can be reshaped without surgery? Unlike Botox® injections, dermal fillers don’t relax the muscles for a smoother skin; instead, dermal fillers work by injecting soft tissue fillers underneath the skin, into parts of the face that can be subtly reshaped to grant you a more radiant and fuller, more youthful appearance. The process is relatively painless and can be used for a variety of cosmetic improvements. Whether you want to fix uneven skin textures, need a solution for a sunken eyes or shadowed areas, dermal fillers can be used as a relatively low-cost non-invasive alternative procedure.
