BREAST REDUCTION (Reduction Mammaplasty)
Breast Reduction Surgery
A breast reduction is an operation that removes excessive breast tissue and fatty tissue in order to leave the breast smaller, better-shaped and in proportion with the rest of the body. The nipple is elevated to a more youthful position and the shape of the breast is improved.
Is this for me?
If you have large, heavy breasts you may experience various negative symptoms including back pain, neck pain, psychological embarrassment, and poor posture. It can be difficult to fit in clothes properly and regular physical movement can be restricted and constrained. If any of these scenarios relates to you, a breast reduction can help minimize or eliminate these problems.
There are many techniques used for this procedure. All techniques may involve the removal of excess skin, lift of the areola, and a reduction to the mammary gland, depending on the desired results of the patient. The most common incision for this type of procedure is the "T" (or Anchor) incision (inferior pedicle) or a variation of the lateral incision, both similar to the ones used during a breast lift.
